First, I would like to mention that there are thousands of humans here in Skagway and I haven’t seen another doggie except for my friends Giani and Lady Bella. Today there are 4 huge cruise shipped docked in this tiny town with at least 2000 humans aboard each one, and not a single doggie.
Secondly, I am glad that I’m hard of hearing (deaf as post) because of all the trains honking and the ships blowing their horns all day and night. Oh, and did I mention the helicopter tours! The cruise ships leave early every evening only to be replaced by new ships at the crack of dawn. When I go out at midnight and again at three or four o’clock the engines hum so loudly that Kathe has a hard time getting back to sleep. And on top of that with the time change here in Alaska, I’m getting up an hour earlier. Enough about me.
The humans enjoyed the day shopping with the crowds from the cruise ships. As you can imagine every store was packed. And like any other cruise ship port there were lots and lots of jewelry stores. There were souvenirs, T-shirts, and all kinds of merchandise with the word Alaska printed on them. The town is only about seven blocks long with nothing but tourist shops.
They purchased very little. A couple of Christmas decorations, a knife for Jim and a ring for my Kathe. Then when they were tired of the battle they found a great fish and chips shop away from the touristy area for lunch. Kathe went back later in the afternoon to take this picture without very many people in the way. As you can see the snowy mountains are a beautiful backdrop for the cruise ships.
Tonight’s cocktail is the Sunset Martini.
