HAINES ALASKA

This morning Kathe and Warren went to the grocery store on good authority that the weekly barge had come in with fresh produce. That only happens on Tuesdays and apparently by the end of the day nothing is left on the shelves. They stocked up with treats for the Fourth of July.

Across Lynn Canal from Skagway is the Borough of Haines, Alaska. You can get there by car, but it would take about seven hours of driving on some pretty rough roads. My humans decided to book a trip on the Fast Ferry this afternoon to spend time in Haines.

No dogs allowed today, and I’m just as happy. It’s so cold, foggy and windy that I actually lost my balance on a walk when a gust of wind blew me down. Stayed home and curled up under the fireplace.

The boat trip took about 45 minutes, and a bald eagle greeted them when they docked. It was a very small town, and they walked from the dock into the heart of town in about 15 minutes. There were some very nice gift shops, 2 grocery stores and a fish market. They filled their backpacks with fish and goodies before taking the Ferry back to Skagway. Prices were still high, but the selection was much better. It remains to be seen what will happen when we cross back over the border to Canada in a few days. What will they take away at customs?

Tonight, they all went to dinner at Skagway Fish Company. Delicious!
