FINALLY SOMETHING EXCITING

Kathe's been talking about taking a Jet Boat trip since last January. Finally, they found one that they could all agree upon here in Lewiston. This morning they left me, and the other doggies home and spent the whole day on the Snake River in Hells Canyon.

Hells Canyon is the deepest gorge in North America, deeper than the Grand Canyon. The River is America's deepest and flows between Washington and Idaho and into parts of Oregon. In some places it's 150 feet deep.

The steep walls of the canyon were amazing, very interesting features like basalt in columns, ancient lava flows, alluvial deposits, and small islands. The Captain stopped the boat to point the geological features and some Indian writing on the canyon walls left by the Nez Perce.

They saw bald eagles, osprey, wild turkeys, geese and ducks as they sped down the river. They stopped several times for dips in the water and at a waterfall to cool off as the temperature in the canyon was well over 100 degrees. Even with the cool water spraying on them, they were still very hot.

The canyon is the home for the largest population of Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep and they were seen all along the shores of the River.
